Paddleboarding is an off-shoot of surfing.
Stand up paddleboarding (also called SUP) is a surface watersport where paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves.
The push-pull method is the most effective way of paddling when stand up paddle boarding. It requires inserting the paddle gently into the water ahead of the feet, and then pulling it backwards and lifting it back out of the water.
Paddleboarding uses special boards, designed specifically for gliding on top of the water.
Ullswater Wake & Surf offers expert coaching sessions and/or board hire for those who want to explore on their own.
Our qualified coaches are trained and can offer you a relaxing and enjoyable way to learn paddle boarding on one of the UK's most beautiful lakes.
Beginners can enjoy an introductory lesson and we can teach groups of up to 6 people at the same time. Our coaching sessions run 8am - 9.30am and 5pm - 6.30pm.
Alternatively, we offer board hire for those happy to paddle under their own steam.

who can do it?
Paddleboarding can be done by anyone who can swim and is confident in the water.
There's no real age limit but we like to suggest that 8 years old is a good age for children to start learning. Please note there must always be someone at least 18 YEARS old on the water to supervise anyone under 18.
Can i make a group booking?
We can take up to 6 people for a group coaching session. Alternatively we can hire a maximum of 8 boards for groups who want to explore the lake without coaching.
Can my family come and watch?
Family can watch from the lakeside, or if they want to watch out on the water they can charter our boat.
We can take up to 6 people on one boat charter.
what gear do i need to bring?
We have everything you'll need from wetsuits to boards to buoyancy aids. All equipment is included in the price of your session. Please bring some suitable footwear like old trainers that you're happy to get wet.
You'll also need your 'swimmies' and a towel to get dry afterwards!
It's also worth making sure you have something warm to wear after your session on the lake as it can get chilly.
