Paddleboarding is an off-shoot of surfing.
Stand up paddleboarding (also called SUP) is a surface watersport where paddle boarders stand on their boards and use a paddle to propel themselves.
The push-pull method is the most effective way of paddling when stand up paddle boarding. It requires inserting the paddle gently into the water ahead of the feet, and then pulling it backwards and lifting it back out of the water.
Paddleboarding uses special boards, designed specifically for gliding on top of the water.
Ullswater Wake & Surf offers expert coaching sessions and/or board hire for those who want to explore on their own.
Our qualified coaches are trained and can offer you a relaxing and enjoyable way to learn paddle boarding on one of the UK's most beautiful lakes.
Beginners can enjoy an introductory lesson and we can teach groups of up to 7 people at the same time. Our coaching sessions run 9.30am - 11am.
Alternatively, we offer board hire for those happy to paddle under their own steam. Board hire is available in 2 hour slots, but if you want longer then simply email us at email@example.com

How long are sessions, and do I need to book in advance?
A normal paddleboard coaching session is 1.5 hours. Board hire sessions are 2 hours. Please book in advance.
If you want to hire for longer then simply email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll let you know what's available and we can get you booked you in. If you are planning on booking a block of sessions, please ask about our multi-session deals!
who can do it?
Paddleboarding can be done by anyone.
There's no real age limit but we like to suggest that 8 years old is a good age for children to start learning. Please note there must always be someone at least 18 YEARS old on the water to supervise anyone under 18.
Can i make a group booking?
We can take up to 7 people for a group coaching session. Alternatively we can hire a maximum of 8 boards for groups who want to explore the lake without coaching.
Can my family come and watch?
Family can watch from the lakeside, or if they want to watch out on the water they can charter our boat.
We can take up to 6 people on one boat charter.
what gear do i need?
We have everything you'll need from westuits to boards to bouyancy aids. All equipment is included in the price of your session. All we suggest is that you bring your 'swimmies', some footwear (like old trainers) and a towel to get dry afterwards! It's also worth making sure you have something warm to wear afterwards.
Where can I Park
WHERE can I get changed?
We are based at Waterside House Campsite where there are changing and shower facilities available.
The campsite also has a shop and pop-up café for breakfast, lunch and cake by the lake!
Beginners should stick to days with minimal wind which will ensure you learn SUP quicker. More experienced boarders may enjoy a wider range of weather conditions.
We monitor the weather and will cancel sessions when we believe the weather poses a danger.
You can find out more about our cancellation policy here.
Can we stay nearby?
Yes, very close!
We are based at Waterside House Campsite right on the water's edge - it's an ideal base for exploring the Lakes. There's camping, glamping, Tipi and Pod hire available.
